This is a Spring Summer 2021 menswear collection. The theme for this collection is inspired by a psychology reaction called benign masochism. It is a reaction where we have a positive reaction towards something that is meant to trigger a negative response. I put my focus on benign masochism on scents that are known to be nasty but pleasant to most human's sense of smell. Scents like rotten fruits, burnt toast, paint, cigarette, and mold, etc. These items are the main inspiration behind this collection. The main focus of this collection is to be fun and playful. On top of that, I also want to bring contrast and surprises to this theme. Therefore, I used things like jam, oranges, and lavender as a pleasant contrast to those “nasty” scented items. In order to project the theme in a more visual and understandable manner, I used my own print designs and fabric manipulations to show the story of the theme. My print designs are surreal collages of images that I found online and transformed them into my liking to a pattern or placement print. And the fabric manipulations are inspired by the outlines or resemblance of those "smelly" items. I also focused on the use of colors and shapes to make the collection more lively and fun. The liveliness, fun, and quirkiness of this collection is the essence of my personal brand.
